Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the club’s new manager will decide whether to trust Darwin Nuñez as the team’s number one striker.
The Uruguayan national team striker joins the Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for a fee of 85 million pounds, but his performance is uncertain. Especially the matter of wasting opportunities which has been heavily criticized lately.
The defeat – Liverpool’s first at Goodison since 2010 – means they are three points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and one clear of Manchester City, who have two games in hand.
Jurgen Klopp now looks likely to end his final season at the helm with just February’s EFL Cup triumph to show for his efforts, with Carragher declaring Liverpool’s title hopes to be over on Wednesday.
Carragher believes the new manager will be questioned by Nuñez and a decision will have to be made on the striker’s future.
“I think there are questions that need to be asked,” Carragher told ยูฟ่าเบท Sports. “You want him to do well because he gives everything. He creates problems for his competitors. He scores some weird goals.”
“But after two years, when Liverpool was fighting for the championship or in a big game. You want your people to score goals at Old Trafford or Goodison Park. This is what business is all about. He didn’t do that.”
“After two years, he has not improved at all. This is what he is He can cause problems. But he was erratic with his finishing. It’s not enough to help you win the championship. So a big decision has to be made regarding him.”
Nuñez has played 92 games for Liverpool, scoring 33 goals and providing 17 assists.
